Deuteronomy 6: Obey or Else

Synopsis:

Moses reminds everyone; God brought you out of Egypt and is going to give you the land he promised Abraham. So when you take the cities you didn't build and the vineyards you didn't plant and the wells you didn't dig, remember your god. Don’t go chasing the other gods, or this god will get angry with you. And for goodness sake, please teach your children to keep these laws as well because they need to know.

In other words:

They are about to go steal some land and claim God gave it to them, so be sure to thank God for eternity for this gift.

Favorite bit:

Deuteronomy 6:16 – Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Obey or else! Don’t make Him come down here!

Least favorite bit:

Deuteronomy 6:11 – this is the passage where they are told what they will get, without having worked for it – because they will steal it from others.

Moral Lesson Learned:

Greedy people are easily manipulated. (Deuteronomy 6)
