Deuteronomy 19: Protection for the Innocent

Synopsis:

3 cities are to be set aside to act as sanctuaries for people who accidentally kill another person. However, if you kill intentionally, you cannot seek sanctuary in these cities. If 2 or 3 witnesses  rise against you, you will be considered guilty. However, if someone bears false witness and is found out, they will receive the punishment they sought against the person they bore false witness against.

In other words:

Don’t punish the innocent. Forgive accidents and don’t lie to harm other people.

Favorite bit:

(Deuteronomy 19: 19) Regarding false witnesses “Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
