Warning - the death watch takes 3 chapters.
Synopsis:
Jacob is dying and calls Joseph to him to bless his sons. He
blesses the youngest better and this upsets Joseph, but Jacob won’t be swayed
saying both boys shall be great, but the younger one will be even greater
still.
In other words:
Jacob/Israel is dying.
Most annoying bit:
These blessings mean nothing because we are not told of any
of the exploits of these two boys (the sons of Joseph) to know whether his
prophecies come true or not.
Moral Lesson Learned:
Humor the dying. Seriously, you don’t need to pick a fight
dying man. Just let him ramble (Genesis 48: 18, 19)
