Exodus 34: The 2nd 10 commandments, not the same as the first

Synopsis:

God calls Moses to the mountain and asks him to bring stone tablets so he can once again write the commandments down.  He says if you do this, I will expand your land and drive out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites and the Perizzites. When Moses comes down from the mountain with the tablets after 40 days, his face is glowing and it’s freaking people out so he has to wear a veil.

Here are the commandments given in this chapter:
1) Destroy the altars of the lands you conquer so you aren’t tempted to worship those gods
2) Don’t worship other gods, because I am Jealous
3) Don’t make molten gods
4) Keep the feast of unleavened bread
5) All the first born are mine, except the asses
6) Work 6 days, rest the 7th
7) Observe the feast of weeks
8) Appear before me 3 times a year
9) Don’t offer blood with leaven
10) Don’t cook meat in milk

In other words:

God’s issues another set of commandments that have nothing to do with morality at all.

Favorite bit:

Exodus 35:14 “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name IS Jealous IS a jealous God.”   Given that the 8 of the 10 commandments have to do with worshipping God, I think we can take God at his word here.

Also very cool:

Exodus 35:30-35 Moses face shown and the people were afraid of him so he had to wear a veil. Did he get sunburned or was he glowing like and an elf or an alien. Was he radioactive?  Don’t know.

Moral Lesson Learned:

Don’t go whoring (Exodus 34:16)
