Numbers 27: Women gain inheritance rights.

Synopsis:

The daughters of Zelopheah, son of Hepher who was the  son of Giead who was the son of Machir who was the son of Manasseh, who was a son of Joseph – came to Moses and Eleazor and asked about their inheritance. Their father only had girls. Moses spoke to God and God agreed, they should inherent their father’s inheritance. God then tells Moses to bring Joshua to Eleazor and for Moses to put his hands on Joshua and charge him with authority in front of the entire congregation.

The Rules of Inheritance.

If a man pass with no sons, his daughters inherit.
If he has no daughters, then his brethren inherit.
If he has no brethren his father’s brethren inherit.
If his father had no brethren then the nearest kinsman inherits.

In other words:

Women are granted limited inheritance rights and Joshua is named next in line to rule the congregation.

Favorite bit:

(Numbers 27:1) For some reason I really enjoyed the lineage of these women who asked for inheritance rights.

Second favorite bit:

(Numbers 27: 3) Our dad died in the wilderness of his own sin and he wasn’t part of the company of Korath that gathered together against God.

Moral Lesson Learned:

Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and ask for what is rightfully yours (Numbers 27:1-7)
